Hipi is to open eyes, Dega is to understand. This project takes you through my emotions as I navigate the world inside (the world I create for myself), as well the world outside, (the one that everyone else creates). This project has definitely been the most intimae and introspective of my work. I always say my personal development as a young man reflects in my music; and vise versa, as I grow personally so does my artistry. The title “Hipi Dega” was inspired by Mk Asante’s book “It’s bigger than hip hop: The Rise of a Post Hip Hop Generation”. There is a chapter of the book that touches on how much our English vernacular is inspired by parts of Africa, in particular the Wolof tribes of West Africa. So in essence, the title is not only a call to action, but also an ode to the rich African history that inspires me. The beauty in putting this project together is that it grew so organically. I had no intention of doing an album, but as I began writing and recording songs, they seemed to naturally fall inline. It’s said that art gives order to experience, well for me that is exactly what Hipi-Dega has become. I truly hope you enjoy it. Special thanks to everyone that has helped me put this project together. Erika Granberry, Fresh Lamonte, Wavy Marv, Dj Burn, Jc, & Tyler Cymone. Warmest regards, Habit

The “Soul Society” is the audio embodiment of the relationship between music and people, and expresses the thought that music is to not only be heard but felt. Become apart of the society of people that dares to feel.

    Niki Nu: Nonviolence

    Nonviolence

    SHOOT EM WITH TRUTH!!

    Bang,
    Shape your brain
and hopefully you will get it..
    to formulate a higher focus
    and then maintain.
Sulcus, Gyrus, high or low, form the wavy ridges of your temple.
    Can you break the shadow?
    complete dedication
    to understand
    yourself.
Take a journey down the alley ways of your Temporal
    Knowing..
My own mind now, I will grow out of

    It’s hard to comprehend
but I want to uplift my life and living
    So, I got to bend.
Damn, I need that truth that hits.
My eyes start to water up, high tides from the thought
of all the battles we fought
    to continue to fight everyday.
    Pain.
    Injustice.

There is only one kind of change that can blossom,
it sheens like the voices of Gospel.
And, very carefully articulates the society of love
    Like Gandhi.
    It is the power inside Tupac’s heart;
    So effectual, bold, yet gentle.

The blood stain of the good fight and wise victory, after death.
    Can’t stop it.

    Sweet freedom in legendary words.
    We live.

The army of the light, take flight.
    Shoot with roots,
    And execute with kindness.
No mercy when it comes to the magnanimous
    Get the bigger picture?
Send a survival input, marked red.
Watch the cortical wave run with an urgent message
to snatch it out the heavens.
    But,
    integrity tends to hide.
You have to search and re-search very carefully.
Brain overload but luckily it’s a sponge, absorbing a scheme.
Poof, it’s proof once you let yourself see. Resilient.
    Fight for what it means.
